Fire, hammer and anvil define this creative language. Once nearly extinct in this country, this craft is experiencing a renaissance at the hands of artists like DeMartis. He also works with more modern tools and materials, creating unique works of balance and harmony. In addition to the purely wrought iron pieces, DeMartis often adds elements of stained and blown glass to infuse color into his work. Each sculpture is the result of a labor-intensive process that emphasizes subtle detail and delicacy. DeMartis has worked in the metal arts for 15 years. He has a been a resident of the East End for ten years and has shown extensively in the area. Currently, he owns and operates his own custom metal studio in East Hampton where he sculpts and creates custom artistic furnishings...
